Iliamna first began as an Athabaskan village located where the Iliamna River flows into Iliamna Lake. The area is now called “Old Iliamna” as the residents from this area 40 miles to where present-day Iliamna lies. In the 9130s, the first sport fishing lodge was built with the second following in the 1950s. Today, Iliamna’s economy relies on sport fishing and hunting, with the possibility of turning into a mining town.
